I am a born and proud Aussie! I studied and graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 2016 with a Bachelor of Business (Management) with Distinction and a Bachelor of Games and Interactive Entertainment (Games Design) with Distinction. I chose this dual degree because it allowed me to combine two of my strongest interests, business, and video game design.
I became interested in developing video games while I playing Roller Coaster Tycoon as a wee child growing up in Brisbane. It was fascinating to be able to build worlds and from then I wanted to build my own worlds and create experiences that would draw players in. (Fun fact, when I visited theme parks such as Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, I would make sure to always grab a park map, so the moment I got home I could boot up Roller Coaster Tycoon and build the park I just went to as best I could!)
After graduating university in 2016, I went and worked as a Software Developer and Customer Service Technician at a local IT company in Brisbane called 1ICT, where I excelled in B2B people based roles and projects.
In 2017, I joined local a Brisbane-based startup called Massive Attain as a Producer and Business Consultant to help the owner wrestle under control the direction of the business. When my Job was done, one of my favourite reviews ever was given by the Owner Ben Carruthers:
"In all honesty I would not have been able to arrive at this path without your input and you really should proactively search out a career where you can provide your insight and judgement on a professional basis. The advice you brought to the table was always sound and carried the right amount of "harsh-truth" that is necessary to such a small burgeoning venture."
In 2018 I shipped my first commercial game with a great team, DESPOILER (a hovercraft arena racer) on Steam! It was a university capstone project that we eventually got onto Steam (during the Greenlight days).
Then in mid 2018, I thought it was time to truly break into the video game industry and made the leap to leave everything behind and head to the UK on a Youth Mobility Visa and see what the world had instore for me. Ever since then, I have been at PlayStation as a Submission Engineer helping other game developers and publishers release video games. A dream come true and a life goal achieved!
What next?
I'm not sure but with good fortune more exciting things I hope!
